back to friendship pin pattern page. Instructions (only) for Friendship pin making Instructions for safety pin (also known as friendship pin) making: The basic materials you will need are: seed beads, safety pins and pliers. (Note about beads: No matter what you do, and who you buy your beads from, there will be hole inconsistencies. This means that the holes in some beads are large enough to fit on a pin shank, and others will have holes that will not allow the bead to fit. There is no getting away from this fact. Seasoned crafters are used to this, but a novice might think they have "defective" beads. Because no one can know how many beads in a package will actually have holes that will be good (not even the manufacturer), you should order your beads with extra amounts to account for this. Step 1: Open the pin and place the beads on the front shank of the safety pin. Remember that seed beads are naturally different sizes, so choose ones that are similar in size. If the pin won't close, choose beads that are smaller in size, or slightly squeeze the loop at the end. Follow the pattern, with the top of the "picture", being the round loop end. Step 2: Close the pin and if you wish, squeeze the head of the pin so that it won't open easily. Lay the pin down on the working surface. Step 3: Loosen the round loop of the pin so that it will be easy to string other pins onto it. Hold head of the pin in your left hand with the point away from your body. Hold the pin with the finished beads on it in your right hand with beads facing away from you. Thread the base of the beaded pin onto the front shank of the largest , "main" pin and force it around the loop and onto the back shank of the large pin. Follow the pattern from left to right. Step 4: Follow these steps for all the rows of the pattern. When you are done, give the creation to a friend as a "friendship" token! ...and enjoy1
